Good value means offering a lot of features and functionality at a reasonable price point. The Harman Kardon 171 satisfies these criteria admirably and if anything, goes a step further satisfyingly in some areas.

Best Value Receiver: Harman Kardon 171

For example, a network audio visual receiver is expected to support, well, an Ethernet / DNLA network, but the 171 also offers Apple AirPlay, Bluetooth and vTuner, an internet radio service. This means that in addition to 'standard' A/V devices, smartphones, tablets and virtually any network source can also come along to play.

You also get six HDMI ports including a single mobile high definition link, digital audio inputs and analogue audio and video inputs thus covering all the bases.

And of course, as expected from Harman Kardon, the 171 produces rich, all enveloping sound even from two channels or when streaming.
