Yum! Acer 10" 'Ice Cream' Tab $549

By Oonagh Reidy | Wednesday | 16/05/2012

Acer hits with another Android tab - this time on Ice Cream Sandwich

The 10" Iconia Tab A510 is uber powerful (and light weighing 685g) with NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, HD voice and video, 5MP rear and 1MP front cameras.

The 1280x800 bright display has an easy to use interface with Android new 4.0 OS, and Dolby Mobile 3+ for excellent sound quality.

The A510 packs 32GB of internal storage, microSD card slot is provided for additional memory, Wi Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 and an HDMI port to hook up to other devices.

"A powerful NVIDIA TEGRA 3 quad-core processor can handle heavy multitasking, HD videos, console-like gaming, and faster web browsing, while a fifth "companion" core takes care of low-power tasks like music playback and active standby," says Acer.

Iconia Tab A510, which will set you back $549, pretty standard for a tab with its specs, and has better multitasking with its clever 'Ring' interface, which lets users bring up their most frequently used applications and web pages.

Ring further enhances the Ice Cream Sandwich interface by offering quick access to favourite apps from the home screen.

Another handy tool is 'Screenshot'' which captures web images, articles, Google Maps and even images from video calls (pretty cool).

Acer's newest tab also bosts noise suppression and echo cancellation technologies to enhance audio, and video calls can also be conducted in HD Voice for crisp clear chats.

Apps wise, its Android OS means it has access to thousands of applications through the Google Play store.

Acer Iconia has been one of the better selling tabs here in Oz, of late but says the A510's 9800mAh battery boats the longest battery life of any stand-alone tablet available - up to 15 hours on a single battery.

And on the professional side, it comes with Polaris Office 3.5 for editing and reading MS Office documents on the move.

Acer Print also comes preinstalled, which makes wireless printing easier with support for various document formats, photos and web pages and is compatible with the "majority" of branded printers, say its maker.

"Tablet usage continues to grow at a significant pace, and this Acer ICONIA tablet is now better than ever," says Antonio Leone, Acer Product Business Manager - Tablet PC, said.

And to seal the deal, the PC giant are offering a Bonus Iconia Tab Starter Pack worth $150 which includes a range of online tutorials, a dedicated customer support line and a "bonus" $100 eGift voucher for online digital content from Dymocks and The In Song for free e-books and music.

Get the Android tab now at JB Hi Fi, The Good Guys, Radio Rentals, RRP $549.
