Professional photographers or people who are on the road and need to capture large amounts of data are a prime target audience for a new Western Digital (WD)Thunderbolt-powered dual drive called the My Passport Pro.

The portable hard drive was designed to provide professionals and enthusiasts with higher performance and capacity in a mobile solution, the company said.

Available now, the 2TB version of the My Passport Pro is now on sale in Australia. 

For Mac systems, WD said My Passport Pro has user-selectable RAID functionality to deliver needed performance. No power adapters or extra cables are required.

"The only Thunderbolt dual-drive solution that's bus-powered, WD's My Passport Pro enhances the workflow of mobile creative professionals by providing fast transfers and data protection for the large amounts of digital content they generate outside the studio," stated Jim Welsh, WD worldwide branded products sales executive VP. "From photographers, videographers and musicians to graphic designers and architects, people who depend on portable storage for their livelihood will find My Passport Pro defines a new level of performance, reliability and especially portability."

WD's design approach directly powers the dual drive via an integrated Thunderbolt cable, enabling speeds up to 233MBps, for fast transfers, edits and backup capabilities.

The user-selectable RAID function, enables choosing data striping (RAID 0) for high performance or mirroring (RAID 1) for data redundancy, depending on the user's needs.

WD said the integrated Thunderbolt technology allows copying a 22GB high-definition video file in half the time typically required by a USB 3.0 drive working in RAID 0 format.

The dual drive combines two 2.5-inch hard drives in a sleek aluminum enclosure.

WD said the My Passport Pro was thoroughly shock-tested for extra durability to perform reliably on the go.
