The Plumen 001 light bulb works just like any low energy bulb, but has been imaginatively sculpted to become the world's first designer energy saving light bulb.
One of 90 shortlisted products on display at the Design Museum in London, Stephen Bayley, the chairman of the 2011 Brit Insurance Design Awards, said the product brought a 'small measure of delight to an everyday product', and is the work of designer, Samuel Wilkinson and design company, Hulger.
Called Plumen, the name has been derived from the word 'Plume' - a bird's feather - which is designed to attract attention to its prowess and beauty. The energy efficiency has been achieved by bending the glass tubes of the light bulb, which has been designed to be seen without requiring a shade.
Currently the screw type 230V bulb is out for sale in the UK and Europe for around $32, with the rest of the world promised its version on Plumen's website in April.
