Third party Nikon batteries not working on firmware updates on Nikon D3100, D3200, D5100, D5200 and P7700 cameras.

How Nikon Update Killed Battery

The third party Nikon batterys which are affected are the EN-EL14.

The issue was reported on Nikon Rumors, which also indicates it is "impossible to use Nikon batteries in third party battery grips."

The firmware update was released for the Nikon's camera models last month, designed to detect remaining battery charge for the Li-ion EN-EL14a rechargable battery.

It is not clear whether this was accidental move by Nikon or whether it was designed to block out use of third party batterys.

The company has not made any other information or provided any updates on its website.
