A Dick Smith slip up suggests the magic Google stick is in the pipeline for Australia.

$49 Google Chromecast IS Coming

Last week, the retailer mistakenly published a sku online detailing Google's 'Chromecast HDMI streaming Device' which indicates it will go on sale next week, May 28th for A$49. The sku was pulled down not long after.

The TV dongle streams content from Google apps like Play Music, Movies & TV, Youtube and local TV content from a smartphone or tablet to a TV via HDMI cable.

Chromecast basically makes a dumb TV (without Internet) smart, without having to fork out the big bucks.

It is available in Canada, US and much of Europe, with local TV content from BBC iPlayer, Netflix and Hulu. The amount of apps Chromecast works with is growing.

Google has been coy on release of the device locally, saying in March there was no timeline for a launch, but persistent reports suggested otherwise including rumours Telstra was in talks with Google to include local content on Chromecast.

It works on Android tablets and smartphones, iPhones, iPads, Chrome for Mac and Chrome for Windows.
