By Mendelson Tiu | Thursday | 05/11/2009

Yamaha will be launching a new system that provides wireless audio streaming as well as AV equipment control.

According to Yamaha, the MusicCAST² is designed to integrate seamlessly with new or existing installations. The three main components of the MusicCAST² system include a Wi-Fi handset controller, a client with IR functions, or a client with built-in amplifier.

The MCX-RC100 handset controller features a full-colour display and multi-directional touchpad, and can command up to 32 independent zones of music and infra-red control via Wi-Fi. A selection of hardware buttons provides access to the most-used functions and also offers an easy to use user interface.

The MCX-P200 client performs two functions - music playback and AV control. As well as analogue stereo and subwoofer outputs, the MCX-P200 client features three infra-red control outputs which can be programmed to control AV equipment such as TVs, Blu-Ray players, Set-Top-Boxes and AV Receivers.

The MCX-A300 is designed as a stand-alone client with its own in-built stereo amplifier. Like the MCX-P200, the MCX-A300 can play back music from a variety of sources including iPod & Bluetooth, USB, Internet Radio and music files stored on DLNA-compliant NAS drives or PCs. Support for iTunes libraries is provided through compatibility with TwonkyMedia software.

Both the MCX-A300 and MCX-P200 clients can connect to the MusicCAST² network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

Yamaha Network AV Receivers (RX-V2065, RX-V3900 and RX-Z7) can also be controlled by the MusicCAST² system. For example, connecting a single Yamaha RX-Z7 to the MusicCAST² system will immediately provide four independent zones of music - each with their own source.

MusicCAST² is targeted for Australian release in March with pricing to be announced closer to the release date.
