LG Looks At Google TV As 3D TV Sales Go Soft

By Wire Service | Tuesday | 13/07/2010

Sony's Google TV efforts are set to be challenged by LG with the Company looking to build a Google TV offering for release early in 2011.
The Korean Company is also looking to build out their own Application Store similar to what Samsung is offering, however the Company has warned that they are concerned about the dominance that Google is building up in the Android application market and that Google may become too dominant in the TV sphere.

According to LG's chief executive of digital display, Simon Kang the Company is interested in what Google TV has to offer.

"Google TV could spark strong interest in the market," Kang noted, "but the reason we are deliberating is because Google may one day dominate the software space and we don't want to end up as just a hardware provider."

In a rare admission Kang admitted that LG is struggling to sell their 3D TV's claiming  "We previously thought that demand for TVs in the second half will be very strong, but as global economic conditions are worsening, this will impact the foreign-exchange rate and we may even have to raise our TV prices."

In Australia LG has lifted their share of the flat panel TV market at the expense of Sony and Panasonic.
