Mobile Phones Can Compete With iPods

By Manisha Kanetkar | Friday | 02/03/2007

Primarily known as an iPod accessories company, Gear4 has shifted its focus to making accessories designed for mobile phones with in-built music players.

The company has launched a set of Bluetooth-enabled wireless stereo headphones (dubbed Bluphones) which are the first in its new range of accessories designed specifically for the music-phone market.

"Mobile phones can compete with the iPod – and we'll be there with the products for them," says Gear4 Managing Director APAC, Jamie Dudderidge.

He added that the Gear4 Made for iPod accessories range (including some new products designed for the upcoming iPhone) will still continue alongside the new mobile phone gear.

The new Bluphones work as a Bluetooth headset to take calls from mobile phone, while also working as wireless stereo headphones from which you can listen to music stored on your phone. The headphones will alert you to incoming calls and allow you to pause the music via a button on the headset. When the call is over, the music will automatically restart.

There are also little volume control, play/ pause and skip buttons on the headset, so you can control your music wirelessly.

The headphones will play music from mobile phones (or music players) that support the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP), but will work with non A2DP Bluetooth devices (such as current Nokia phones) in mono.

They offer a claimed 5 hour music playing / talk time and 60 hours standby time.

RRP: $129.95
